AGM – 2024 Board Elections

2024-06-06 BHCA Constitution

We’re pleased to share the next steps in the development of a new Beacon Hill Community Association Constitution and the next AGM!

We’ve now had the opportunity to integrate membership feedback into the Constitution, with the support of legal counsel. This amended version was unanimously passed at the most recent Board meeting. This means we can now schedule the BHCA Annual General Meeting, at which we’ll present the new Constitution and elect Board members.

The elections will be on July 4th, 2024 at 7:30pm at the Beacon Hill North Community Centre at 2130 Radford Court. The nomination process will close on July 1st at 11:59 PM.

In keeping with best practice, the new Constitution includes new election procedures. We’ve outlined them below, followed by the nomination form if you wish to run for a Board seat. Nominations to run for a Board position are open to any and all BHCA members in good standing.

  • Board members are now elected to the Board, not to specific roles (in other words, you don’t vote for (or run for!) President, just Board seats)
  • The newly elected Board will meet immediately after the election and vote what roles each will hold.
  • The Board will initially have 6 seats, which may be increased as required, as per the rules of the new Constitution.
  • ONLY this first time with the new Constitution: Half the Board will serve one year, the rest will maintain the new 2-year term. This will allow for a steady rotation of Board members and historical knowledge. This will be decided by the newly-elected Board.
  • Memberships and prices are changing slightly: It is now $10 CAD (ten) per person. Any automated renewal before July 4th, 2024 will remain with the old fees ($10 per household) only for this year. Any membership purchased as of June 8, 2024, will be on the new schedule.
